2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Trust in the machine: Data, surveillance and public health - Content developed by NAPHWA, session supported by Gilead
Increasing amounts of our personal health information is being recorded, collected and shared by government agencies and private organisations. Should people with HIV and other priority populations trust government assurances of a digital utopia in which we may achieve unprecedented gains in individual and population health? Or are we right to be concerned that our health information will be used to continue the long history of surveillance, over-policing and criminalisation of our communities by the State? Is the end of privacy inevitable or can we do something to avoid its worst effects? Four esteemed panellists will tackle these questions and more.

4:00 PM - 4:07 PM Introduction & Session Overview
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM SH social, political symposium: Sex, sexuality and relationships education in schools: can a national approach ever be achieved
Australia is home to a rich diversity of approaches to sex, sexuality and relationships education in schools.  Some young people receive balanced and reasonably comprehensive sexual health education, others receive little or nothing at all.  For some, the focus is on biology and reproductive health, for others respectful relationships is the major concern. While the Australian Curriculum sets out a framework for provision, it is open to interpretation atstate and territory level. Ongoing debate about approaches to gender and sexual diversity further complicates the picture.  Speakers in this Symposium will discuss whether a more comprehensive and consistent approach is possible, and how inter-sectoral work might bring it about.
4:08 PM - 4:18 PM The politics of and challenges to initiating a National Curriculum on Sexuality and Relationships Education in Australia
4:18 PM - 4:28 PM Barriers and facilitators to implementing sexual health education in schools
4:30 PM - 4:40 PM A world of possibility?
4:41 PM - 4:51 PM Interpretation, implementation and expectations
4:51 PM - 5:01 PM Concluding reflections
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Delegate Free Time - Day 1 Break 5
Explore: Exhibition, Meeting Hub & On Demand!
6:00 PM - 7:50 PM Symposium: Pleasure in a pandemic
Pleasure is recognised as central to physical, mental, and social well-being in relation to sexuality. Yet public health and social understandings of the benefits of sex for health and rights, including the prevention of HIV, is lacking. This has been further compounded by the dramatic impacts of COVID 19. This symposium will provide a platform for exploring different forms of evidence on the meanings of pleasure in diverse communities, to inspire debate and action in recognising pleasures as dynamic, relational, contextual, and embodied, and ensuring that pleasure continues to be valued and promoted, even during the COVID 19 pandemic. Attention will be given to communities that have been historically silenced and excluded from holding power in relation to pleasure, looking across both the HIV and sexual health landscapes.

4:00 PM - 5:27 PM HIV Symposium: HIV Cure and Latency
Antiretroviral therapy (ART) can suppress HIV to undetectable levels in blood, however despite ongoing treatment, the virus can persist in latent viral reservoirs, which is one of the largest obstacles to finding a HIV cure. This symposium discusses the most recent technologies that are being used to characterize these latent reservoirs and current cutting-edge approaches that are being investigated to eliminate them.

Overview: A recognised strength of the HIV response has been the inclusion of social science perspectives and community-based activism. This ‘in-conversation’ session draws on the experience and expertise of a number of thinkers to reflect on how collective and individual experiences of HIV/AIDS have been both incorporated and ignored in responses to COVID-19.

This session will focus on the shared and unique challenges in COVID-19 era for several different population groups and communities including gay and bisexual men; PWUD; people who are homeless; CALD populations; people who are incarcerated including young people. This session will examine what factors may make these populations more vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic and address issues related to supporting harm minimisation during COVID-19 (e.g. HIV testing, PrEP and sexual networking for gay and bisexual men); adaptations to services for PWUD and homeless populations; appropriate engagement with and support of CALD populations; decarceration of prisoners including juveniles. . This session will include the impact of cross-cutting issues – financial stress, accommodation and well-being.

4:00 PM - 5:40 PM SH cross track Symposium: Innovation, Resilience and Sustainability: Changing Times for Reproductive Health and Rights. Includes Closing Remarks by Alexis Apostolellis, CEO, ASHM.
The world is in uncertain times. The climate change emergency is profoundly affecting reproductive health and rights by reducing access to services in natural and human-made disasters and increasing vulnerability to chronic and infectious diseases through pollution and environmental degradation. Innovative approaches to the delivery of reproductive health care, services and information are needed. This session will cover responses to natural and human-made disasters and provide insights for policy and practice that harness novel approaches, build resilient health systems and enable future generations to meet their reproductive health needs. While this session acknowledges the importance of linking sexual and reproductive health, we will focus on areas of reproductive health (contraception, abortion and reproductive coercion) that have not featured elsewhere in this conference.
