Synopsis

Increasing numbers of patients are asking if medical cannabis is appropriate for their symptoms and conditions. It is important for health care practitioners to understand why this is happening and how cannabis may fit into clinical practice. Dr. Danial Schecter will provide an overview of cannabinoid therapy and cannabis legislation. A review of the role and function of the endocannabinoid system will be provided in order to understand how this class of medication can achieve certain physiologic effects. Emphasis will be placed on the use of cannabis in HIV care while examining both the potential benefits as well as risks associated with this novel class of therapy.
