The art of ART 2018 was held at the Sheraton on the Park, Sydney, Australia on Friday 11 May & Saturday 12 May.

We would like to thank all the delegates, faculty and ViiV Healthcare who attended and participated at the art of ART 2018 meeting.


This meeting comprised of a series of plenary sessions, and interactive workshops for S100 prescribers, nurses & pharmacists to attend with a focus on the nuances of ART prescribing and contemporary HIV management in Australasia. This meeting was a complimentary event for HIV s100 prescribers, HIV nurses and pharmacists provided by ASHM through an unconditional educational grant provided by ViiV Healthcare.

The Research Report from this year's Meeting. This report provides a summary of key learnings from the Meeting, including the plenary sessions and interactive workshops.




Key Topics & Learning Objectives:

Update on ART – Simplification of salvage, switching treatment, resistance
1. Have an increased understanding of currently used ART regimens in treatment experienced patients
2. Understand the principles of simplifying salvage regimens in suppressed patients with known resistance
3. Feel more confident modifying regimens to minimise toxicity
4. Explore factors which must be considered when switching suppressed patients with unclear treatment histories and in the absence of resistance genotypes
5. Feel confident to initiate conversations about switch/simplification in treatment experienced patients

HIV in Minority Populations – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations and Gender Diverse Populations
1. Describe key elements of primary medical care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people & transgender individuals with HIV infection
2. Understand the social context and challenges involved in providing medical care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients & transgender clients
3.
Feel confident in providing HIV care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
4. Have an awareness of prevention strategies specific for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people & transgender populations
5. Feel confident to incorporate culturally appropriate & trans competent HIV management & prevention into your clinical practice

HIV and the Law
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the laws relating to HIV disclosure and transmission in the Australian context
2.
Describe the key studies which provide evidence in support of Undetectable=Untransmissible (U=U)
3. Identify the legal issues associated with U=U

4.
Describe legal issues relating to PrEP in Australia
5. Outline legal aspects of the relevant Public Health Act in their state or territory
6. Resolve complex ethical and/or legal issues concerning patient management
7. Demonstrate awareness of resources in the community to assist patients with legal issues

Medicinal Cannabis 
1. Explain the key components of current Australian medicinal cannabis legislation and the application process
2. Identify modes of administration and formulations of medicinal cannabis
3. Describe the pharmacology and toxicology of cannabis and cannabis-based products 
4. Identify the potential indications for cannabis use in HIV medicine
5. Identify side effects associated with the acute and chronic use of medicinal cannabis
6. Participants will have developed a pathway to provide medicinal cannabis that will be effective for their particular patient population and location
