Topic 2 - HIV in Minority Populations
Synopsis
The transgender population in Australia is poorly defined, and the HIV positive transgender population even more so. There are a number of issues related to the management of HIV in this population, including stigma, barriers to diagnosis and retention in care, high rates of mental health problems and suicidality, lower levels of knowledge regarding HIV prevention and sexual health, and drug-drug interactions between hormone therapy and antiretrovirals. The plenary and workshop will explore these issues and address related management questions using a case study format.
