Biography

Kim Farrington has worked at SARC for more than 15 years as a Forensic Medical Officer. Kim has a Master's Degree in Forensic Medicine and is a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine which is part of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. She is currently serving on the national executive committee of FAMSACA (Forensic and Medical Sexual Assault Clinicians of Australasia. For many years Kim was involved with the delivery of SARC Education and Training to doctors, medical students and other health care professionals.

Non-Fatal Strangulation- the hidden dangers

Abstract

Biography

Maire is the Head of Clinical Forensic Medicine at SARC, having worked here since December 2005. She originally trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK and came to Australia in 2005. Maire completed her Masters’ Degree in Clinical Forensic Medicine in 2013 and is a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine, part of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. In addition to clinical work, Maire developed the WA SARC Forensic Nurse Training Project, delivers education and training to a wide range of participants and is involved in a number of research projects at SARC, including; genital and non-genital injuries in female sexual assault, male sexual assault and non-fatal strangulation associated with sexual assault. When not at SARC, Maire assists a bariatric surgeon, is a modern quilter and enjoys swing dancing.

Sexual Assault Response Team - SART” – a collaborative approach to the management of sexual assault in a rural city

Biography

Penny Kenchington has been working as a specialist nurse in the area of sexual and reproductive health since 1995. In this time she has lobbied for nurses to be sexual assault nurse examiners in both the Northern Territory and QLD. In 2002 Penny was one of the first nurses to complete a three day introduction to sexual assault medicine but was not able to complete a grad cert in forensic nursing until 2010 through Monash University and join the nursing roster for examinations in 2011. Penny completed her masters in nursing and became the first Sexual Health NP in QLD in 2008 and continues to work at Townsville Sexual Health Services and casually as a Forensic Nurse Examiner.
