Biography

Dr Clare Huppatz is a Public Health Physician, with post-graduate qualifications and experience in public health, epidemiology and general practice. Between 2013-2019 Clare worked at the Goldfields Public Health Unit and is currently a Senior Medical Advisor at the Communicable Disease Control Directorate, WA Department of Health.

Biography

Dr Paul Armstrong is trained in clinical infectious diseases, public health and epidemiology, and is the current Director of the Communicable Diseases Control Directorate (CDCD) within the Public Health and Aboriginal Division of the Department of Health, Western Australia (WA). CDCD is responsible for state-wide surveillance, policy and program development for sexual health, notifiable diseases, hospital-acquired infections, and immunisation. Dr Armstrong is a past chair of the Communicable Disease Control Network of Australia, the peak national body concerned with communicable disease control in Australia. He chairs, or is a member of, a number of state and national committees concerned with the control of communicable diseases.

Dr Savery is the Regional General Paediatrician in Port Hedland, in the Pilbara region of Northwest Western Australia. He trained in WA, including time in the Pilbara and has returned there after several years in private paediatric practice.

Syphilis in Gay/MSM in WA – Epidemiology & Emergent Trends

Biography

Garry is a Clinical Nurse Consultant with the WA AIDS Council and works at the M Clinic. He has worked at M Clinic since its inception in 2010, then the only primarily nurse-led, peer-based community HIV/STI screening service in Australia specifically targeted towards Gay/MSM, and transgender men and women. During this time he has seen the service grow beyond expectations and which continues to expand. Garry is passionate about the provision open, inclusive, and strictly non-judgemental testing and education – a formula which has seen many high risk clients attend and return to the service who were otherwise be too afraid to attend a ‘traditional’ medical service.

Donna Mak is a public health physician at Communicable Disease Control Directorate, WA Dept of Health, chairs the Population and Preventive Health Domain at the School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame, Fremantle, and works the the WA AIDS Council's M clinic, a sexual health clinic for gay men.
