Details
This session will focus on strategies to put sexual and reproductive health on government agendas, focus action and set targets, integrate sexual and reproductive health services and propel momentum towards the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the Asia Pacific region. In particular SDGs focused combating relevant communicable diseases and on ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services by 2030, as well as increasing health financing and the recruitment, development, training and retention of the health workforce and their capacity for early warning, risk reduction and management of emergencies, especially in least developed countries and small island developing States.
Learning objectives: This session will enable participants to make progress towards sexual and reproductive related SDGs by: * engaging politicians * planning interventions to build the capacity of the health workforce * implementing standards to improve the performance of integrated programming

Aiono Professor Alec Ekeroma MBBS, DipObs, FRANZCOG, FRCOG, MBA, PhD, MInsD is the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Otago, Wellington and the Secretariat Head of the Pacific Society for Reproductive Health (PSRH). He has led the evolution of the PSRH to be the peak body for professional development and advocacy for reproductive health matters in the Pacific region. He initiated the development of accredited educational workshops in obstetric emergencies (PEMNeT), colposcopy and cervical pathology, ultrasound scanning, research and audit and family planning. He was a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist (RANZCOG) council and has served on many corporate boards and national advisory committees. He has led the curriculum team that established the medical school at the National University of Samoa and became its foundation professor this year. He is passionate about building research capacity in the Pacific. He was awarded the Pasifika Medical Association medal for Excellent Service to Pacific Health (2006) and the RANZCOG Distinguished Service Medal in 2015. Prof. Ekeroma is the Editor-in-Chief of the Pacific Journal of Reproductive Health (founder) and the Pacific Health Dialog.
