Focus of the session:
Many strands make up a young persons’ sexual and reproductive health education. From the classroom to the internet to the latest YouTube sensation, sex education is everywhere. Yet, STIs and other negative sexual health and sexuality-related outcomes continue to disproportionately impact adolescents across the Asia Pacific. The session brings together advocates, experts and leaders in the field to share experiences on successes and challenges in the field of sexual and reproductive health education, in the classroom and beyond. The discussion to follow will explore where to next on the journey towards strengthening the strands of our collective sex education rope.
Learning objectives: To articulate successful examples of sexual and reproductive health education in and out of schools 2) To understand culturally diverse approaches to sexuality education 3) To describe the complexity of players in the broader field of sex education 4) To articulate a vision for future work in the field of sex education both in and out of the classroom to meaningfully impact on sexual health outcomes for adolescent populations
