With the science of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) effectiveness largely determined, attention now focuses on optimising the effectiveness of implementation strategies. This session will focus on issues related to the effective implementation of PrEP in Australia and New Zealand. The session will draw upon the evolution of PrEP availability and scale-up, policy and practice, current thinking in relation to clinical guidelines and priority populations and insights on future issues arising in Australia from the potential PBS listing of Truvada as PrEP. The following learning objectives will be provided: • Increased awareness of PrEP implementation issues • Understanding of the intersection between features of PrEP implementation and HIV prevention effectiveness • Greater knowledge of opportunities and challenges to PrEP implementation in Australia and New Zealand

Associate Professor Martin Holt has worked at the Centre for Social Research in Health at UNSW Sydney since 2003. He conducts HIV prevention research with gay and bisexual men.

Biography

Dr Richard Gray is a researcher in the Surveillance, Evaluation and Research Program at the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney. His research focuses on using mathematical models to investigate the transmission of HIV, viral hepatitis and other sexually transmitted infections and assess the effectiveness of public health interventions.

Biography

Joe Rich leads HIV prevention and service delivery at the New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF). He graduated Canterbury University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2004 and subsequently spent several years in the private sector leading the marketing of retail brands, before joining NZAF in 2011.
