This session will examine existing and evolving pathways through which young people can access, and providers deliver, reproductive health services. Attending the session will enable attendees to gain insight into;
• access to reproductive health services by young people, with particular focus on those who are marginalized - the very young, the homeless or in out-of–home care, and those living in remote and rural areas.
• improving service delivery of contraception, including Emergency Contraception, and pregnancy and parenting support to young people.

Melissa Kang is Associate Professor in Public Health at the University of Technology Sydney, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of General Practice (Westmead) at The University of Sydney. She also works as a medical officer in Youth Health Services in Western Sydney, a comprehensive primary health care service for homeless and marginalized young people.

Dr Betty Chaar is a senior lecturer in Pharmacy Practice at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Pharmacy. She holds a Master degree in Health Law and her PhD is about professional ethics in pharmacy. She has many years’ experience in community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and academia. Betty is also currently Chair of Family Planning NSW HREC.

Too Young to Parent?

Rachel is a Professor in Child and Adolescent Health, Sydney University and Adolescent Physician at the Children’s Hospital Westmead. She has spent much of the last 20 years working as a clinician and researcher in adolescent sexual and reproductive health, spanning medical, public health, psychosocial and ethical aspects of SRH in young people. Findings from her research have been translated into policy that has had a global impact on the health of young women including marginalised young people. One main area of research is adolescent risk-taking behaviour, pregnancy and parenting and sexuality. The other main stream of work concerns the effectiveness of HPV vaccines and school vaccination programs.
