Biography

Dr Sam Elliott is a Principal GP at Riverside Family Medical Practice in Adelaide. He has 20 years of experience in managing HIV and viral hepatitis in the community and is currently on the ASHM Board. He has been actively involved in community research. Sam is currently participating in the Partnership Project with Flinders University exploring the utilisation of the chronic disease management model in the management of chronic liver failure patients in primary care.

Biography

Avik Majumdar is a staff specialist transplant hepatologist at the AW Morrow Gastroenterology and Liver Centre and Australian National Liver Transplant Unit, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and senior clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney. After completing his gastroenterology training at the Alfred and Austin hospitals in Melbourne, he went on to the Royal Free Hospital, London initially as a senior clinical fellow and then as a locum consultant in hepatology and liver transplantation. His PhD investigated predictors of clinical outcomes in cirrhosis and portal hypertension. He has research and clinical interests in advanced chronic liver disease, portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma, viral hepatitis, liver transplantation and the non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis. Avik currently sits on the Young GESA executive, the NSW Transplant Advisory Committee and has been elected to the Australian Liver Association executive (2019-2021).

Professor Benjamin Cowie is an infectious diseases physician and epidemiologist, with appointments in both the Epidemiology Unit at VIDRL and VIDS. In addition, Ben is a medical epidemiologist with Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance, Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, and is an Honorary Principal Fellow in the Department of Medicine at the University of Melbourne. He serves on a range of communicable disease, clinical and public health committees at state, national and international levels.
