Details

Primary prevention of violence addresses the underlying reasons why domestic, family, and sexual violence occur. It works with whole populations to address gender inequality and the social determinants of health. This interactive workshop will equip community health workers, youth workers, and other health professionals with tools on how to incorporate primary prevention into their work by unpacking the gendered drivers and how they may specifically show up in healthcare settings, and considering domestic and family violence as a major national health and welfare issue. This workshop will address the theme of “connecting to the future” by discussing the role that participants can play in engaging young people in prevention through public health promotion, and ultimately equip these young people with the skills to improve their health and wellbeing outcomes now and into the future. Learning Objectives: • Gain an understanding of the primary prevention of violence and gendered drivers of violence. • Learn about the intersection between health promotion and ending gendered violence. • Gain tools to incorporate primary prevention into your work. • Gain skills in engaging young people in prevention work.
