Details
The team from the Young Adult Supportive Unit (YASU) will present on the 10 principles of AYA care. They will highlight key learnings from working with 15 – 26 year olds with chronic or complex medical conditions. They will provide an overview of the diversity and cohesion of this patient population. Important considerations of working with young people will be highlighted (e.g. gender considerations, the importance of language, patient autonomy).
Learning Objectives:
- Highlight the core principles of working with AYAs and what this practically looks like in
clinical practice
- Provide insights into the benefits/highlights of working with AYAs and how to overcome the
challenges

Tori is a youth ambassador at the Mater Hospital Brisbane. She is neurodiverse and has Neuronal Intestinal Dysplasia aka Slow Transit Constipation. Tori is of First Nation descent of the Yorta Yorta mob. She brings her lived experience as a Young Adult with chronic illness being Indigenous and being neurodiverse.

Annalise is a psychologist and the team leader of the Young Adult Support Unit (YASU). She has a Masters in Educational and Developmental psychology.
