Details

Global hepatitis C elimination strategies emphasise the need for community-centred and peer-led approaches to implementation. Yet, research on innovative harm reduction technologies and service designs for people who inject drugs often focus on whether they are ‘effective’, rather than how they are made to work in practice, and how they may be adapted to enhance their potential. This session is grounded in implementation experiences from community-led, multi-country research to increase the uptake and use of low dead-space needles and syringes (LDSS) in low- and middle-income countries. The critical role of community-led research and peer-led knowledge mobilisation in supporting implementation and uptake of new harm reduction technologies in diverse contexts will be explored. Audience members will be invited to reflect on country case studies, implementation tools, and broader perspectives from a diverse panel of experts and implementer and consider the implications for designing and implementing meaningful, community-responsive approaches that take advantage of prevention innovations across LMIC settings and beyond.
