Javiera Navarrete (she/her/ella) is a PhD candidate at the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. Her research sits at the intersection of pharmacy practice and public health, focusing on expanding access to pharmacists-led patient-centred care. Her research examines the role of community pharmacists in harm reduction and the public health response to the drug overdose crisis using realist methodology. Her doctoral research undertakes a realist evaluation of how, why, and under what circumstances community pharmacists provide care to people who use drugs in Alberta, with the goal of informing strategies that support pharmacists’ engagement in reducing substance use-related harm. She holds a BScPharm from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and an MSc in Pharmacy Practice from the University of Alberta.

Dr Louisa Picco is an NHMRC Emerging Leader Research Fellow and the Drug Policy and Harm Reduction Program Lead at the Monash Addiction Research Centre. Her work adopts a multifaceted approach to explore the impact of drug policies and harm reduction strategies, in addition to the development and adoption of clinical screening tools to identify opioid related risks for use in clinical practice.

Charles is with the Burnet Institute as a community engagement coordinator contributing to community-research partnerships on national efforts in hepatitis C elimination and co-design and leadership efforts in community participatory research. He is undertaking a PhD in a community-led, descriptive qualitative research study on long-acting injectable buprenorphine. He has held performed several roles in Australia and New Zealand in peer-led drug user organisations. These roles include front-facing needle/syringe and other harm reduction supplies distribution, outreach education and knowledge-transfer and several management positions, including the New Zealand Needle Exchange Program national director role for 15 years. Central in this work has been the living experience perspective connecting to injection drug use, opioid treatment and hepatitis C, and he remains committed to collective efforts in the crucial mission of improving the lives and rights of people who inject/use illicit drugs.
