Details
This session will include cover a number of “hot topics” pertaining to the care of people with HIV in the Australian context.
Leaning objectives:
- Evaluate innovative models for HIV testing and treatment access
- Explore the role of routine integrase genotyping and resistance surveillance data in guiding clinical management
- Apply patient-reported outcome measures (e.g., PozQoL) and preventive health measures (e.g., influenza vaccination uptake) to optimise health outcomes for people with HIV
- Utilize the ASHM Women Living with HIV Monitoring Tool and related audit findings to benchmark and improve service delivery for WHIV

Doris is Section Head of the Blood Borne Viruses Laboratory at VIDRL. Her lab delivers specialised testing for HIV, HTLV, hepatitis A–E viruses and transplant viruses. Doris’s work focuses on HIV, with particular interest in the molecular mechanisms that drive antiretroviral drug resistance, and in viral diversity and transmission.

Dr Rachel Burdon is currently a Senior Staff Specialist and is the Deputy Director for the Sydney Local Health District Department of Sexual Health Medicine.
Prior to this she worked as a GP in a high HIV caseload general practice in Darlinghurst and has worked internationally for NGOs and multilateral partners to support the scale up of HIV prevention, care and treatment services in Vietnam and Papua New Guinea.
She is passionate about providing client centred, equitable and accessible HIV and Sexual Health Prevention, Care and Treatment services.
