This 2-hour skills-based workshop for GPs will explore key updates and practical approaches in HIV and sexual and reproductive health, to support evidence-based care in general practice.
Through a series of 30-minute presentations, participants will gain practical skills for syphilis testing, establishing a LARC clinic, cardiovascular disease management in people living with HIV, and contemporary STI/HIV prevention strategies, including Doxy-PEP, PEP, PrEP, and vaccination.
- Identify lipid targets for people living with HIV (PLHIV).
- Identify steps required to set up a LARC clinic in the community.
- Describe potential supports and barriers to providing a LARC service in the community.
- Recognise the clinical and epidemiological indications for syphilis testing in primary care.
- Select and interpret appropriate investigations for the diagnosis of syphilis in general practice.

Dr Lona Brown (she/her) is a General Practitioner and Medical Educator. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and has a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Lona uses her experience and strong focus in sexual and reproductive health to coordinate the IUD, Introduction to Sexual History Taking and Contraception courses at Sexual Health Victoria. Her dedication to teaching health professionals includes one-on-one training and group courses, all aimed at enhancing community services.
