Sara is a PhD candidate at UQ’s Centre for Clinical Research, applying data-driven strategies with molecular diagnostics to strengthen gonorrhoea management and surveillance. A sexual and reproductive health nurse, researcher, and former Queensland Health STI program lead, she champions co-designed research to advance equitable, person-centred care for improved health outcomes.

Associate Professor Fabian Kong is a pharmacist and sexual health epidemiologist currently working to optimise treatments for STIs, particularly for oral gonorrhoea using drug pharmacokinetics. He is also leading the development of the world's first oral human tissue model of oral gonorrhoea infection to screen emerging treatments to treat oral gonorrhoea.

Her research focuses on reducing the impact of infectious diseases (HIV, STIs, COVID-19 and other respiratory infections) in vulnerable populations, including evaluating the effectiveness, acceptability, and cost-effectiveness of novel strategies, including point-of-care testing
