Biography

Ella Herring is a young microbiologist passionate about improving diagnostic tools targeting bacterial infections to ensure quick diagnosis and treatment for patients. After graduating with her Honours in Microbiology in 2024, Ella has continued exploring this passion as a research assistant supervised by Dr Emily Bryan and Dr Emma Sweeney.

Biography

Natasha is a Monash University research assistant, within the Genital Microbiota and Mycoplasma Group at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre. She completed her honours at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, developing a CRISPR-based diagnostic for Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Her work centers on applying molecular approaches to advance urogenital health.

Biography

Andrey is working on a UNSW-CSIRO Industry PhD in collaboration with SpeeDx. Co-supervised by Tanya Applegate, Denis Bauer and Elisa Mokany, he aims to develop machine-learning methods to pinpoint Neisseria gonorrhoeae resistance markers, advancing next-generation antimicrobial diagnostic tools.

Georgia is a Microbiology Trainee. Prior to studying Medicine, she completed a BA/BSc and a PhD at the University of Melbourne, winning the Dean’s Award and a scholarship with CSIRO. She completed BPT at St Vincent’s and is enjoying the mix of clinical and research opportunities that laboratory medicine provides.
