Jo-Anne Dillon, IUSTI2024 Congress Co-President
The WHO estimated that in 2020 approximately 82 million new cases of gonorrhoea among adults occurred worldwide. WHO has reported recently high levels of gonorrhoea resistance in certain Regions such as South-East Asia and Western Pacific. These figures exacerbate the challenge of managing these infections, especially with the limited number of drugs currently used and in the pipeline. Furthermore, recent trials have raised concerns about the potential for further resistance development through preventive measures like Doxycycline. This session aims to explore innovative strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance in gonorrhoea by presenting the latest data, diagnostic tools, and treatment options.
