A Legacy of Advocacy
8:35 AM - 9:00 AMBiography
Senator Janet Rice is the outgoing Australian Greens Senator for Victoria. She will be resigning her role as a Senator later this month. Janet has been a Senator since 2014 and has been until very recently the Greens spokesperson for Social Services and Forests
Janet served as the party spokesperson for LGBTIQ+ issues from 2014-2022. She is the only openly Bi+ member of parliament, and one of only 10 openly LGBTIQA+ MPs. Most notable in the LGBTIQA+ space is her work on marriage equality, which was made a reality in 2017, and her work as a staunch advocate for trans and gender diverse people, informed by her marriage to a trans woman for many years.
Janet is proud to be working with communities, both inside and outside Parliament, to make Australia equal for all LGBTIQ+ people. We need to reach the end of our ‘journey towards equality!
