Walking Softly, Leading Strong: Cultural Healing Through Yarning, Story, and Community

3:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Biography

I am a Wongatha–Yamatji–Noongar man working in the Social and Emotional Wellbeing space as the SEWB Pilot Program Coordinator at AHCWA. My role centres on developing sector-wide tools, strengthening cultural authority in service delivery, and supporting community-led healing approaches across WA. My practice is grounded in Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, and doing especially storytelling, yarning, and cultural governance. I work closely with Elders, SEWB teams, youth workers, and community members to ensure our programs honour cultural authority, gendered knowledge, and relational responsibilities. As captured in our Yarning Circle guide, “Nods and smiles from the Elders provided unspoken affirmation…” this is the kind of culturally safe space I aim to hold.
