Details
The Perinatal Substance Exposures Special Interest Group pre-conference event is planned to promote awareness, research, and clinical practice to help prevent perinatal substance exposure, respond to the needs of pregnant and parenting people and effectively support children, adolescents and adults affected by perinatal substance exposures. The pre-conference workshop aims to be an inclusive event open to a wide range of people including researchers, clinicians, students, people with living experience, advocacy groups and community members with an interest in the area.

Working with Families who experience perinatal substance use: Reflections on clinical and cultural practice

Dr Andi Crawford (Tangata Tiriti, Pākehā) is a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience working in child development, child and adolescent mental health, maternal mental health, and addiction services. Andi has been the Tangata Tiriti co-lead for the development of Whakakotahitanga Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder diagnostic guidelines for Aotearoa New Zealand with Hāpai te Hauora. She is committed to partnering and collaborating with Māori in order to acknowledge the unique role they have as Indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand. Andi currently works for Te Ara Manapou (Pregnancy and Parenting Service), Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui (Hawke’s Bay), providing support for pregnant women and parents of young children who experience addiction and mental health challenges. Andi also works privately, providing supervision, research and training.
