Biography

Dr Louisa Picco is an NHMRC Emerging Leader Research Fellow and the Drug Policy and Harm Reduction Program Lead at the Monash Addiction Research Centre. Louisa has published over 110 peer-reviewed papers, has been awarded over $2.9 million in funding and is the recent recipient of the 2024-25 Victorian Premier’s Award for Public Health Research. Her research has examined multiple strategies that aim to reduce opioid harm. This includes exploring the implementation and impact of policies such as prescription drug monitoring programs, the development and integration of clinical and consumer approaches to identify opioid-related risks in practice and the adoption of harm reduction strategies like take-home naloxone.

Biography

Associate Professor Monica Barratt is a drug policy scholar at RMIT University. Monica is also the Research Lead for The Loop Australia, a charity that delivers drug checking services in Queensland and Victoria. Her work aims to make unregulated drugs safer through policy reforms and on-ground responses.

Biography

Jennifer Lavalley is a Two-Spirit/ queer (2QS) nêhiyaw-Saulteaux Métis scholar from Piapot First Nation, located in what is now colonially known as Saskatchewan, Canada. She currently resides on the unceded and occupied territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples in what is colonially known as Victoria, British Columbia. She is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Victoria's Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research. Jennifer’s postdoctoral research focuses on co-creating Indigenous-centred and culturally safe drug-checking technologies and services in partnership with Indigenous Peoples who use drugs (IPWUID).

Biography

Dr Amber Domberelli is the NSW Lead for The Loop Australia and is a Senior Clinical Pharmacist for the Emergency Mental Health Addiction Assessment Response Team (EMHAART). Dr Domberelli is a social researcher exploring perceptions of treatment, substance use and psychedelics, with a focus on harm reduction and culturally safe service delivery in rural and regional Australian communities.
