Biography

Dr Michael Curtis is a Research Associate at the National Drug Research Institute, Curtin University and the Burnet Institute. His research interests include using longitudinal observational cohort data and administrative datasets to improve the health and wellbeing of people who use drugs. Previously, Michael worked as a social worker.

Biography

A/Proff Geoff Spurling is an NHMRC Emerging Leader (2020-2024) and a senior GP at the Southern Queensland Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary care (2004-present) where he has been prescribing opioid dependence treatment since 2021. His research focus is ensuring equitable access to primary health care.

Biography

Bek leads the fieldwork team within the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) working group at Burnet Institute, coordinating data collection for a community-based study of over 1,500 people who inject drugs in Melbourne. She has a special interest in women’s sexual and reproductive health, particularly among women who use drugs.

Biography

Dr Dawkins is a GP and Addiction Medicine Advanced Trainee based in Auckland, New Zealand. Her work focuses on harm reduction and public health. She is researching STI screening in addiction services. Her work improves equity by strengthening the interface between primary and secondary care.

Biography

Michelle is a Research Capacity Project Officer at NADA with a PhD in health sociology. She was previously a senior lecturer at ACU, and has held research roles across NGOs and health services including DAMEC and Family Planning NSW. Michelle also draws on her lived experience in her work.
