Biography

Professor Deborah Williamson is a Clinical and Public Health Microbiologist, Professor / Director of Microbiology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Doherty Institute, Deputy Director of the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory, and a Dame Kate Campbell Fellow in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne. She is an NHMRC Investigator Grant recipient, received a L’Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science Fellowship in 2017 and was awarded the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases Frank Fenner Award in 2020.

Dr Emma Sweeney is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research. Her current research focuses on antimicrobial resistance in sexually-transmitted pathogens, with a particular focus on diagnostics for syphilis and Mycoplasma genitalium.

Biography

Tammy is a Research Assistant at the University of Melbourne Dental School, working with Dr. Antonio Celentano on developing an in vitro oral gonorrhoea model for studying the dynamics of infection. Tammy has completed a Masters in Biomedical Science at the University of Melbourne, where she worked on the multimerisation of antimicrobial peptides for improved antimicrobial activity.

Her research focuses on understanding the contribution of the genital microbiome to reproductive and sexual health outcomes, and understanding how interventions, and behavioural and sexual practices influence the genital microbiome composition.
