Biography

Dr Nick Medland is a clinical epidemiologist researching the tracking the community impact of clinical interventions on infectious diseases transmission, including HIV and sexually transmitted infection. He is a consultant physician in HIV and sexual health. He is the recipient of an Australian Government NHMRC early career research fellowship with the Surveillance, Evaluation and Research Program at the Kirby Institute for infection and immunity in society, Faculty of Medicine, UNSW.

Biography

Cherie is a passionate healthcare professional who has been working in the HIV, Sexual Health, and Viral Hepatitis sector for over a decade. Her large portfolio of work spans a range of government, non-government, research and healthcare settings. As well as being a practicing clinical nurse Cherie specialises in teaching, presenting and interactive facilitation as well as providing operational analysis and policy review for healthcare settings to identify system gaps, opportunities and funding pathways.

Biography

Martin’s expertise is in HIV prevention, particularly with gay and bisexual men. He studies trends in sexual behaviour, and conducts social and behavioural research on HIV, sexual health and the use of biomedical prevention methods. For the last three years his team has been assessing the impact of COVID-19 on gay and bisexual men’s behaviour, and now his team is setting up a project to understand community perceptions of and reactions to monkeypox, including willingness to be vaccinated and change behaviour.

Biography

Brent Mackie, Associate Director, Policy, Strategy & Research - During his more than 35-year career Brent Mackie’s work has included communications, media and social marketing, management, population health, social research, and policy and program development. Brent has worked in numerous senior leadership roles in both government and non-government organisations. Brent has a Master of Arts by Research in Health and Sexuality as well as degrees in sociology and communications. Brent has extensive experience in health research and is a passionate community advocate and volunteer.

Biography

Stephen Molldrem is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in the Institute of Bioethics and Health Humanities. He is an ethnographer situated mainly in Science and Technology Studies. His research focuses on ethical and socio-technical issues related to digital public health and pathogen genomics.

Robert is the Health Promotion Officer at the Queensland Council for LGBTI Health, previously working for The School of Public Health at Griffith University. He has a Batchelor and Master’s degree in Public Health. Robert’s passion is to integrate public health frameworks with social marketing strategies to encourage behaviour change for better health outcomes.

Biography

Jennifer Power is an Associate Professor and Principal Fellow at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University. Her research focuses on sexuality, sexual health and HIV. She currently co-ordinates the HIV Futures study as well as studies in LGBTQA+ wellbeing and digital sexual health promotion. Anthony K J Smith is a Scientia PhD Candidate at the Centre for Social Research in Health, UNSW Sydney. He is researching clinician perspectives on providing PrEP in Australia. Anthony is broadly interested in HIV prevention, health sociology, and qualitative research methods.
