Overview:
The ongoing Crystal, Pleasures and Sex between Men research study has been examining gay and bisexual men’s crystal methamphetamine use with the goal of identifying more nuanced understandings of the ways crystal is used, its pleasures and risks, and the everyday strategies men employ to reduce these risks. Our aim has been to develop a clearer picture about the use of crystal amidst contemporary concerns – both locally and nationally – of increased risk of HIV and other BBV transmission. The project includes the perspectives of key informants who work in the sector, as well as the experiences of gay and bisexual men who use crystal for sex and socialising.
We invite key advocates, community workers and health professionals to join this interactive knowledge translation workshop to learn more about the project and its findings, and to identify and reflect on innovative and feasible health promotion and harm reduction messages and strategies. The session be relevant to those who work with this part of the population or whose organisations have a responsibility for sex- or drug-based harm reduction and HIV/other BBV transmission. Given the interactive nature of the session, we encourage participation from those who attend.
The event is organised by the Centre for Social Research in Health (CSRH) at UNSW Sydney in partnership with the Australian Research Centre for Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS) at La Trobe University, ACON, the Victorian AIDS Council (VAC), South Australia Mobilisation + Empowerment for Sexual Health (SAMESH) and the Western Australian AIDS Council (WAAC).
