Learning Objectives: 1) To examine the patterns of drug use, including sexualised drug use, among gay and bisexual men in Australia 2) To challenge common assumptions about the role of drugs in sexual risk-taking and the interaction between drug use and mental health. 2) To examine motivations for, and positive impacts of, using drugs in a sexual context. 3) To explore how sexual health and harm reduction professionals can meaningfully engage with GBMSM about sexualised drug use in a way that takes account of such motivations.

Mo is a Senior Research Manager at the Kirby Institute. He was responsible for the design and implementation of an automated cohort management systems which was adapted for use in two Australian PrEP trials, EPIC-NSW and PrEPIT, and the national drug study ‘Flux’ which is currently expanding to New Zealand.

A/Professor Garrett Prestage has been involved in gay community research and advocacy since the 1970s. He has investigated HIV behavioural risk through multiple studies of gay men’s sexual health, since the 1980s. He has strong relationships with gay community organisations and his work informs policy and programmatic responses

Jennifer Power is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University. Her research focuses on sexuality, sexual and reproductive health and HIV. She currently co-ordinates the HIV Futures study.
